This Imperial 4-door Sedan is in need of a restoration. It’s equipped with the optional factory air conditioning and a radio model 844 with button on the floor. There are also notes from the owner from 1973 – 1985 with the car, detailing all the work done on the car during this time. The door panels are pretty nice, the seats (two-tone leather) need to be redone. Paint is faded and there are rust bubbles. The engine is running and Imperial drives. Engine number: CE56-7909.
Actually this car is for sale. Price: $ 3,700.00 obo.

The other car I know a bit about is the one I purchased as a parts car and now have a basement full of parts. This was S/N C568314 and I know very little about its history. It was available as a parts car as the seller had acquired it for the engine and transmission for a hot rod he was building. The car was quite rough but did yield a complete dashboard, brakes, wheels, window glass, and majority of the exterior trim in good shape. I also took the seats but they are really only good for the frames and front seat motors as the original leather upholstery and foam are shot. Here are some pictures of it on a friend’s property where I was able to disassemble it.

Jeff wrote the following description:
The car was built 2/21/56 and shipped 2/24/56 based on the information provided by Chrysler Historical. It is one of the very first produced with the Torqueflite transmission and includes the Town & Country radio but not the floor mounted search button. The car has been repainted and reupholstered by previous owners. The paint, while a modern base-coat/clear-coat, is extremely close to the original emerald green and the interior fabrics are all correct Chrysler fabrics of the period although the lighter green is what was used in New Yorkers, not the Imperial.
I purchased the car in 2003 on eBay from what I now believe was the fourth owner. A few years after I got the car, my wife got me a copy of a 1997 magazine (I don’t recall which) that had some interesting articles on Chrysler products. I flipped through the whole thing including the classifieds and noticed one advertising a 56 Imperial in the Pittsburgh area. Since I knew that this was roughly the time and place that the car was purchased by the individual from whom I bought it, I decided to do some research. After confirming with the eBay seller that this was in fact the ad he had purchased the car from, I called the number listed and found that it was still in service and still belonged to the man who had run the ad. He was an estate sale organizer who worked closely with a prominent law firm in Pittsburgh and had been asked to sell the car for one of the firms partners. He filled me in on the car’s entire history: It was purchased new in Miami, FL by an older couple after the gentleman’s retirement as a partner in the same law firm (the location of sale matches the information from Chrysler Historical). When the husband died, I believe in the late 60’s, his widow gave/sold the car to another lawyer from the firm back in Pittsburgh who had in interest in the car. He eventually gave/sold it to his son (also a lawyer in the same firm), I believe in the mid to late 80’s. The son is the one who had the paint and upholstery work done as I understand it and was the one who eventually sold the car in 97 to the man from whom I purchased it.
In the six years that I’ve had the car, the only changes/improvements I’ve made was to install seatbelts, radial tires (with custom white walls by Diamond Back), and to convert the to electronic ignition after several failed attempts to get the dual point distributer working well. I’ve also replaced the entire hydraulic side of the brake system, although I’ve maintained the original center-plane system with NOS parts.

I found this Imperial on a website where it was marked as “sold”. The description told, that it has the PowerFlite 2-speed-automatic, but I think at this late production number it should have a TorqueFlite 3-speed-automatic.
It was part of the Davis collection and was equipped with an AM radio and factory air conditioning.
